On the basis of a regional film show, which was launched in 1995, Schlingel has developed in the past years into an internationally recognized film event, which enjoys an excellent reputation and is regarded as a demanding, broad-minded and outward-looking festival both by national producers and distributors and by international film makers. German, international and world premieres of films from all continents have become distinctive of the festival, which has, however, remained true to its geographical emphasis on Eastern Europe with impressive contributions every year. The quality and range of productions presented in the competitions has continuously grown. With nearly 100 films that will enter into competition in 2007, the festival is now the largest scene for impressive film art from all over the world in Germany. In meanwhile 5 competitions (children, junior, youth, short and animated film, focus Germany) prizes are offered and decided on by the juries including a European children's jury, which is unique in the international festival world. In addition, an international jury consisting of 5 culture experts evaluates the films. Enriched by a representative cross-section of the German children's and youth films produced last year, Schlingel offers mainly our foreign guests an overview of German films and thus functions as a mediator between the cultures. The festival meets this requirement also by widely promoting the direct exchange between international directors, actors and producers on the one hand and the local public on the other hand. Schlingel takes place annually and addresses a five to twenty-year-old public.
