The juries at the 34th Oulu International Children's and Youth Film Festival selected very different films as winners.
The award winners all dealt with difficult themes but managed to treat them with warm, occasionally crazy humor.
The festival main prize, the Star Boy Award (4000 EUR and the Star Boy statuette designed by sculptor Sanna Koivisto, donated by Oulun Energia Ltd) was given By the Children's Jury to the Dutch film Little Gangster (De Boskampi's), directed by Arne Toonen.
Norwegians have a long history of winning at the Oulu Festival, and they did not have to leave without an award this year either. The ECFA jury gave their prize to Operation Arctic by Grethe Bøe-Waal.
The winner of the Youth Film competition, selected by the youth jury, is Czech film Fair Play, directed by Andrea Sedlácková. The For Tomorrow Award (1500 EUR) for the winner is donated by Friends of the Young association.
The Church Media Foundation prize (1500 EUR) is awarded to the winner of the Finnish Competition. The winner is If I Ruled, a short film by Jenni Kangasniemi and Aino Suni.
